Canterbury is hosting a “pop-up” store for parents in the Avondale area to shop for new toys for Christmas, for their children, at affordable prices. This Christmas shopping event takes place annually at Avondale Samaritan Place. Gifts need to be brought to Avondale or Canterbury by November 27. You are welcome to shop local or from our Amazon Wish List. Financial donations are also welcome.

  • Easter Baskets

Each spring, Canterbury sponsors over 150 Easter baskets that are delivered to children through our local ministry partners. Canterburians are invited to fill a basket and help share an Easter blessing.

  • Prison Birthday Card Ministry

This team sends a personalized note to each of the men at Donaldson prison as well as to the women’s facility in Birmingham. Names and birth dates are given to the writers who return the cards to Canterbury and are mailed close to that date.

  • Book-A-Palooza

Each year, Canterbury collects one book for every student in a local Birmingham elementary school near the end of the school year. The kids are thrilled and it is a great way to encourage reading outside of the classroom!

  • Bakesgiving

A free community event put on by Avondale Samaritan Place (& volunteers like you!) featuring samplings of the best sweets of the holidays! Fun for the whole family with craft tables, face painting, and a cake walk!

  • Cookies with Santa

Another opportunity to serve and be a part of ASP! A free community event to have pictures made with Santa, cookie decorating, more crafts, a few games, and just a fun spirit filled afternoon for the whole family!
