SAGE adults are 65 years plus and focus on spiritual fellowship and giving back to others. They are role models at Canterbury as they represent unity and faith in their service of giving and engaging in every age and stage of life. Each SAGE ministry is prayerfully designed to provide purpose, guidance, and life meaning to our church and community.
To support and encourage the SAGE adults to embrace the journey of aging, foster intergenerational relationships, and continue to strive for a healthy, spirit filled life.
Areas of Ministry
On the 4th Tuesday of every month, people from Canterbury and all over our community come together for a great lunch and fellowship while enjoying entertainment including dancers, singers, musicians, or professional speakers in our community.
Encore Community Respite Ministry
A day program from 10 AM-2 PM Monday through Thursday filled with stimulating activities for those living with memory loss and early to moderate stage dementia, while providing a time of rest for the caregiver. We are always in need of volunteers. The bonus is that this will change your life and you will have instant friends, belly laughs, and leave with a heart full of love. Alzheimer’s & Dementia Support Group
Caregivers from CUMC and the Birmingham community are all welcome to come and find meaningful advice and loving support on the difficult journey of memory loss and dementia. You don’t have to do this alone. Starting at 10 AM every Wednesday and Thursday in Classroom M226.
On the first Tuesday of every month, Dr. Renee Harmon teaches the basics of what dementia is and what is the next step for your loved one and your family.
Canterbury Care Team
A group of volunteers who visit our homebound members wherever they live and bring them a little happy and keep them up to date on what is going on with our church.
CUMC has a visitation team that will bring communion to our members who are in the hospital or who are in their home and not able to leave.
Canterburians meet for a well-rounded workout to help in strength, balance, and flexibility. A qualified fitness instructor leads the class in aerobic exercise. Classes meet Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30-9:30 AM.
