Avondale Samaritan Place

Canterbury UMC and Avondale UMC share a joint vision: to serve the immediate needs of men and women in the community while leading them toward a more productive future. Avondale Samaritan Place, a Community Hub for Christian Service, currently addresses food, housing and elderly-assistance needs through both the Avondale Food Co-op, and Beeson Senior Services. Together, Canterbury United Methodist Church and Avondale United Methodist Church have created a place to serve the Avondale community. Contact Susan Sims at ssims@avonumc.net for more information.

Firehouse Shelter

Canterbury UMC serves 3 meals a month at Firehouse Ministries.  First Tuesday dinner, Third Tuesday dinner and fourth Monday lunch.  For more information, or for serving at Firehouse Shelter, contact James Ruzic james.h.ruzic@gmail.com

Church of the Reconciler

If you find joy in cooking, please consider making two quarts of Santa Fe Soup and dropping off at Canterbury throughout the week! We collect the soup in a freezer throughout the year, and drop off batches at Church of the Reconciler every Tuesday.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on wheels is a great team to join!  Click here to read a recent article about Canterbury’s MOW volunteers. Villa Maria is served 5 days a week, Freedom Manor is served twice a week and there is a frozen meal route once a week.  If you have 75 minutes to share once a week, twice a month or once a quarter, we can plug you in!  Contact Rachel.estes@canterburyumc.org

STAIR

STAIR is on a mission to improve reading skills and self-esteem of second graders through one-on-one tutoring. 90 minutes a week for 16 weeks can make such a difference. Contact Kelli Thompson Bell at kelli@stairbirmingham.org if interested. Virtual Options Available.
